The Martin Project

10/7/2011

Along with many people worldwide, MINCA members were greatly saddened by the untimely death of MINCA founder-member Martin Gibson while in holiday with his wife, Lorna Hempstead, in Budapest, Hungary, last month.

Martin will be remembered for many things – not the least of which was his love of the Magnetic Island natural environment. This love will now be permanently remembered thanks to the generosity of Lorna, who has asked MINCA to auspice a fund in honour of Martin. In discussion with Queensland Parks and Wildlife and other relevant bodies, the money raised will be used to construct an appropriate facility – a new track, lookout on an existing track, seating or signage.

Donations of $2 or more to the fund, ‘The Martin Project’, will be tax deductible. Donations can be made in person or online at the QCCU (BSB: 704640; Account Number 661827; Account name: MINCA Public Fund); or by cheque payable to MINCA Public Fund, PO Box 30, Magnetic Island, Qld, 4891; or via Lorna or any member of MINCA Management Committee. If you choose to contribute via QCCU, please email president@minca.org.au with details of your donation so that a receipt can be sent to you.

MINCA is honoured to assist in the community’s remembrance of our much-loved Martin in this way, and thankful for his long-term support of the Island’s natural environment.
