While out and about on Magnetic Island this weekend enjoying the glorious spring weather at all the events, don't forget to keep an eye out for those pesky myna birds. MINCA members Phil Stephenson and Peter Illidge are working with Townsville City Council and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service in a control program for those invasive and damaging birds. If you see any, please contact Peter Illidge on 4778 5982 or (0415 930 412) or by email at [email protected]

MINCA was particularly pleased by the gratitude expressed by people dropping off electronic waste, with many seeing it as a godsend to their storage problems. “With this success, we will be looking to do a this at least once a year. If people know that there will be a clean-up, they will hang on to their no-longer-functioning IT bits and pieces, rather than sending them to landfill, were they take up huge amounts of room and contaminate the land” Peter said. The skip will be taken to Buyequip in Townsville for reusing and recycling of much of it as possible. MINCA thanks Roo and Kerrie from DTE Excavations for the use of their compound in Kelly Street. |
