FAVOURITE TREES ON MAGNETIC ISLAND

Picture
Trees! Don't you just love 'em!

But deep down many of us have special trees - ones that are our favourite, ones that are important in our lives for any number of reasons - their beauty, location, history, sheer doggedness in surviving against the odds! - ones that we would like to see protected come what may.

In order to ensure that favourite trees get that extra special care and level of protection, MINCA is establishing a register of favourite trees around the island.

Add your favourite tree:

To put your Favourite Tree on the MINCA register, download a nomination form here, fill it in and get it back to MINCA (either by scanning and emailing, snail-mailing or handing to a member of the MINCA Management Committee).

Nelly Bay

Nominated by: Pen Sheridan
Location:
Corner of Barton and Kelly Street.
Girth: Approx 2.5m
Height:  Approx 15m?
Condition: Looks really healthy. The lower trunk bark of the tree is blackened due to fire? Not sure when this would have occurred?

A few limbs were "pruned" during cyclone Yasi but no significant damage.

Reason for nominating the tree,  I  always admire the tree  (and also the stand of trees on the lower side of Kelly St) when I cycle, walk or drive past. The tree marks the intersection of the Barton and Kelly streets so beautifully. When I see the tree I wonder about all the changes that have occurred around it and will occur in the future. I hope the tree will be there for many many years to come.
