MINCA is a volunteer-run community organization. Its funds come entirely from membership fees, any grants that it is able to attract from the government or industry for specific purposes, the sale of Fizbags and donations. 

Because MINCA is listed on the federal government's Register of Environmental Organisations, donations to MINCA to the value of $2 or more are tax deductible.

How to make a donation

Donations can be made by cheque, money order, cash or direct deposit.

IMPORTANT: To claim tax deductibility, you will need a special receipt, so, when making a donation by direct deposit, unless you really want to remain anonymous, please make sure that MINCA is able to identify you by name and address.

Cash

Donations in cash can be made by direct deposit (see above details) or to a member of the MINCA Management Committee in exchange for a receipt.

Regular donations

Have you thought about giving a small, regular donation to MINCA? This can be arranged directly with your bank. Please consider this way of guaranteeing MINCA a secure future. The MINCA Management Committee can assist in establishing a regular donation system for you.

What is ‘a donation’?

A donation is an unconditional gift of money or property that the donor gives of his/her free will to an organisation. The organisation is free to determine the purpose for which the donation will be used, within the confines of that organisation’s objectives. The donor may state a preference as to how the gift might be used as long as the organisation has an unconditional discretion as to how it will use the gift.

The donor must not receive any pecuniary or other material benefit in return for the gift including such benefits as membership or newsletters.

Accountability

Donations made to MINCA are deposited into a separate account, the Magnetic Island Nature Care Association Incorporated Public Fund, which is oversighted by the MINCA Public Fund Management Committee. This is a group of three people deemed by the Minister for the Environment to have a wide degree of responsibility to the community that extends beyond their commitment to MINCA. It is a requirement that a majority of the Public Fund Management Committee meet such a standard of responsibility.

Currently, the members of MINCA's Public Fund Management Committee, all of whom meet the ‘wider responsibility’ standard, are: Katharina Fabricius, Selina Hale and Peter Jones. The MINCA Public Fund is subject to the provisions of the Associations Incorporation Act 1981 and the resolutions of the Management Committee of the association.
