WORLD HERITAGE MAGNETIC ISLAND
Worth caring for!

The Magnetic Island Nature Care Association (MINCA) works to ensure that the species, habitats and biodiversity of World Heritage Magnetic Island and the waters around it are not damaged by human activity, and that development is sustainable and in line with the needs of future generations.

What do we do? Lots!
  • Weeding and re-vegetation
  • Manage the Bolger Bay Conservation Park  and Claude's Block
  • Contribute to clean-ups, environmental education and to environmental maintenance
  • Raise funds to assist environmental projects
  • Lobby for good environmental management policies and practices at all levels on Magnetic Island
  • Continue to build an online Magnetic Island Environmental Resource Centre

See our about page for more information about what we do, our project page for current projects or our achievements page for information on our previous activities or our member page to join.

Building a Magnetic Island Environmental Resource Centre for all

We encourage you to add information to this website so that we can continue to build a detailed Environmental Resource Centre for Magnetic Island that includes information about its:
  • Plants, weeds and trees
  • Native animals
  • Birds
  • Reptiles and frogs
  • Butterflies
  • Spiders, insects and bugs
  • Geology
  • Life in the ocean around Magnetic Island

If you'd like to contribute content to the MINCA Environmental Resource Centre simply contact us.

Who do we work with?

Many of our projects require us to work closely with a variety of stakeholders including scientists, Queensland Parks and Wildlife, NQ Dry Tropics, James Cook University, local, state and federal governments, Townsville City Council, and local Magnetic Island groups that include Arcadia Coastcare, Zero Waste Magentic Island, Magnetic Island Community Development Association (MICDA), Magnetic Island Resident and Ratepayers Association (MIRRA) and Tourism Magnetic Island (TMI).

Our ongoing projects and previous achievements

We work on a number of ongoing projects  that include the management of Bolger Bay Conservation Park, consultation regarding the Port of Townsville expansion, the Picnic Bay Water Recycling Project plus many more.

We are also very proud of our previous achievements, that have included a number of major projects around Magnetic Island, including the Nelly Bay Habitat Reserve, the 'Carbon Cuts' Film Competition, the Energy-Saving Field Day, the Low-Carbon Interbay Challenge, and the Anti-Plastic Bag Campaign.
